FATface was tasked with creating a few hero assets for this project, and I was the <em>Technical Lead<\/em> of this project. A few challenges that we met was our first-time use of OpenUSD, and to create a highly detailed moon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"THE WANDERING EARTH II (2023) Official International Trailer | In North American Theaters January 22\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/8ZIfInUTiIg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">In 2022, most off-the-shelf USD exporters available for Maya were not mature enough to do a plug-and-play USD export of most assets. We relied a lot on the USD API tools, Autodesk Maya <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/Autodesk\/bifrost-usd\">Bifrost USD Pack<\/a>, and USD API python binding to perfect our USD workflow. Thanks to many people who generously shared their hands-on USD knowledge, especailly Colin Kennedy&#8217;s incredible <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/ColinKennedy\/USD-Cookbook\">USD Cookbook<\/a>; without these important guides, our USD workflow could hardly work as good as they were for this challenging project.
